FAQ

Common frequently asked questions about TXF functionality with Taxfyle and support

General Capabilities

Can TXF handle Schedule B and summarize interest/dividend income?

Yes. TXF extracts data from 1099-INTs, 1099-DIVs, or consolidated 1099s and summarizes dividend/interest income for Schedule B.

Can clients rerun a return with additional documents?

Yes. TXF will add any missing documents to the existing return.

Does TXF work for business returns?

No, only 1040 individual returns are supported. Self-employed or freelance income for a Schedule C is also supported. Entity business tax documents are not supported and may get misclassified as a Schedule C in TXF.

Software & Integration

Does TXF work with Drake Online or only Drake Desktop?

Drake Desktop only (Drake Tax 24 and 25). Drake Tax Online is not supported at this time.

How do I set up the integration with ProConnect/Drake?

What's the difference between ProConnect and Drake export functionality?

ProConnect: Direct integration to TXF creates a new return each time. The preparer is charged at e-filing.

Drake: Downloads a file to your computer for you to add to the Drake Imports folder for seamless import when creating a new return in Drake.

What tax years are supported?

ProConnect: 2019-2025

Drake: 2024-2025 only

Cost & Payment

Do I need to pay for TXF when working on Taxfyle jobs?

  • TXF usage: Free for Taxfyle platform jobs
  • Tax software: Preparers still pay their normal Drake/ProConnect fees
  • Unlimited license holders: No additional per-return cost
  • Per-return license holders: Pay per return as usual

Can I use TXF for my own clients outside Taxfyle?

No, you’ll need to contact our sales team if you wish to purchase TXF for your own clients outside of Taxfyle. You can schedule a demo using this link:

Workflow & Process

When should I wait to export vs. export multiple times?

  • Best practice: Wait for all documents to minimize re-runs
  • Can export multiple times as documents arrive
  • Drake: Adds to existing return
  • ProConnect: Creates new return (can delete old one)

What happens when a client uploads additional documents after I've already exported?

TXF will process new documents and add them to the work request. When clicking the Review & Export button on the banner above the Documents card, you’ll see the date the document was uploaded to differentiate. Documents will process in real-time as uploaded. You can then re-export from TXF to update the return.

What workspace segments can use TXF?

  • B2C (Retail): Yes
  • B2B2C (Partnership): Yes
  • B2B (Outsourcing): No - must follow firm processes

Is TXF required to accept Taxfyle jobs?

No, it's optional to use for generating returns. You can still accept jobs and complete them using standard best practices without using TXF. It’s a complimentary tool meant to boost efficiency by streamlining the manual data entry of client tax data, expediting return processing.

What if documents get misclassified or are unassigned?

Review the "Form Assignment" tab in Final Tax Review screen. You can manually assign documents to taxpayer/spouse/dependent/business/rental.

Document Handling & Uploads

What file types are supported for document uploads?

  • PDF
  • JPEG
  • CSV
  • XLSX
  • TXT

Can TXF handle client-submitted expense lists?

Manual entry is required unless part of a P&L document, which TXF can extract for Schedule C and E.

How does TXF process K-1s?

K-1s are not supported for input to Drake or ProConnect. TXF will classify them, but they will not get assigned to the client’s return.

What documents does TXF handle?

Does TXF support client organizers (for rentals or self-employed for example)?

Not currently supported. They will get classified as a Schedule C (for self-employed) or Schedule E (for rental) in TXF.

Why was one of my documents excluded as a duplicate?

TXF automatically detects when the same form was uploaded more than once (for example, the same W-2 in two files) and excludes the duplicate so it isn't processed twice. You can review excluded documents in the Excluded Workpapers section of Form Assignment and include any back if needed.

Schedule-Specific Logic

Can 1099-MISC data be mapped to Schedule C?

1099-MISC defaults to Schedule 1 on the 1040. Schedule assignments in tax software are supported for Schedule C and E through the Form Assignment section of the Final Tax Review screen.

Does TXF handle rental income for Schedule E?

Yes. Rental income and expenses are pulled into Schedule E. You can assign rental income from a 1098, Profit & Loss, or 1099 through the Final Tax Review screen.

How does TXF handle complex brokerage data (from 1099-B)?

TXF classifies short-term/long-term gains and imports to 8949 & Schedule D using summaries grouped by account from the 1099-B. It’ll map the description of capital assets as follows:

Brokerage name - last 4 digits of account number - Short Term/Long Term - Covered/Non-Covered

How does TXF determine placement for medical/healthcare payments?

1095-A/B/C placement is based on form type.

Can TXF handle Form 8997 (QOF)?

It extracts QOF proceeds from 1099-B.

Does TXF handle depreciation?

Not currently supported. Depreciation of assets needs to be handled manually within the tax software.

Client & Joint Return Handling

How does TXF handle joint returns (taxpayer vs. spouse)?

Based on name/SSN from documents. It’ll assign the taxpayer to the person with the most documents under their name in the folder. If a prior year return is available, it defaults the taxpayer/spouse assignment to how they were assigned in the prior year return.

What happens if documents contain different addresses (from W-2s for example)?

TXF prioritizes:

  1. Prior year return
  1. W-2
  1. Government-issued ID

You can make manual changes to the taxpayer’s address for mapping to Drake or ProConnect in the Final Tax Review screen.

Verification & Notifications

How does verification work if a change is made post-extraction?

Changes are shown in the verification view, but not flagged separately. No notifications are currently sent (in development). Failed or unsupported extractions are visible in the work request.

Security & Infrastructure

Where are TXF’s servers hosted?

Google Cloud (U.S. based).
